Analysis Of Dante s Divine Comedy - 1362 Words

Victoria Ward Mrs. Bauerle English 12 22 December 2016 Purgatory Purgatory is part number two in Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’. This was written in 1300. Although the story is rather ancient and rare, when looking at the spiritual story with a logical mindset it has the ability to connect with today. The connection I was able to find behind Dante’s work of art was the psychological and geographical impact. ‘The Divine Comedy’ contains real life morals; Dante’s work is far more than just a spiritual afterlife poem series. For example, he shows that any journey is full of trial and error, various beliefs, and hidden lessons. The divine comedy consists of three parts; ‘The Inferno’, ‘Purgatorio’, and ‘Paradisio’. The inferno is all different levels of hell and all of the seven deadly sins. Dante meets his guide virgil here who is with him throughout the entire Divine Comedy. Virgil is the one who takes him on the journey through hell. The circles of hell starting with circle one are Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, and Fraud. In each circle, Dante meets someone new who then explains their story and background of how they got there. Each level has different punishments. After they finish their journey they get to the second part; Purgatorio. Purgatory is for the saved who purged their sins. Purgatory is where they prepare themselves to become worthy of God. The only difference is that Purgatory is only temporary. Change In the Purchase Behaviour of Tourists and Its Impact How

Questions: 1. What are the factors that link purchase behaviour of the consumers with the shopping experience? 2. What is the impact on the local business owners as a result of degrading condition of leisure shopping? 3. What are the possible steps that the local business owners might take in order to improve the degrading condition of leisure shopping? Answers: Introduction: The research proposal is a business problem case study. The proposal highlights the major business problem decisions along with the research questions and the research techniques that shall be undertaken for this particular research study. Analysis of the business decision or problem: As stated by Machleit, Meyer and Eroglu, (2005), leisure shopping is a magical concept for the tourism industry and has been offering true sense of spending leisure time in a new region by the means of shopping. Leisure retail is referred to the shopping outlets that attract shoppers to browse the retails outlets and the products available there in their free time. It has been found that many small towns and village on the rural margins or tourism centres have turned to retail outlets (Machleit, Meyer Eroglu, 2005). This step has been undertaken as a retail development option and has also offered a strategy of offering tourist shopping to support local business. The local businesses involved in art, craft and local food and beverages could be benefitted with this local business approach. Many places like Singapore, Dubai, Europe and even Canada is well known for their local products. Tourists find it amazing to get the taste of the local flavour and the local businesses are found to prosper. However, in the view point of Murphy et al., (2008), considering the approach of the consumers towards changing pattern of shopping, the local business owners could face great challenges in terms of dealing with the consumers. Turley and Milliman, (2000) pointed out that there is a clear evidence of changing habit among the consumers around the globe. This has created serious challenges to the local business owners. Literature review: As stated by Zaidan, (2016), there has been a change in the consumer buying habits in the recent time due to changes in the ideology of the consumers and the changing pattern of the shopping method. Same conducted the research and came up with a number of possibilities that has created the transformation in the shopping experience of the consumers around the world. It has been found that common shopping experience has created hassles among the consumers. This hassling experience often results in irritation, frustrating and stressful as an everyday life transaction. Similar pattern is observed when it comes to shopping context (Azmi et al., 2017). People interact in a number of ways including browsing, searching for more information and ultimately purchasing things. Shoppers that have task oriented shopping are found to face difficulties in identifying the uplifts of shopping while shopping oriented shoppers are found to enjoy a part of the leisure shopping. Shoppers that have a recre ational tendency towards their shopping activities are found to enjoy their shopping experience. It is only when the shopping is tend to be task oriented, shoppers find it little monotonous to deal with the experience and ultimately results in a situation where shopping is no more fun. As stated by Choi, Heo and Law, (2016), retailers are found to continuously develop strategies to overcome the conceptualisation of the consumers decision on purchasing a product. In this respect, Mele, Ng and Chim, (2015) stated that tourist product is peculiar product because it is simultaneously a product and also the place where the product belongs to. There are a number of factors that shape the purchasing decision of the consumers. One of the most vital factors is the environment of shopping. It is only when the location and the environment of the particular place is suitable for the consumers to shop, they would find it convenient to shop. It has been found that focus has been made on leisure shopping and the retailers are shifting the shops and the outlets of their retail to the malls and other places to attract more consumers. This provides the shoppers to spend more time at the shopping outlets and give more time to the consumers to browse and then decide upon their choice. The degrading situation of the street shopping has been a major concern in many countries of Europe as well. The countries like Spain, Amsterdam and others are where the regions are famous for the things that they offer to the local people and the tourists. However, the situation has been found to degrade from time to time and the shops are shifting to big malls. The situation of Singapore is at a poorer situation and the local retailers are really in constrained to overcome the situation. As pointed out by Mele, Ng and Chim, (2015) the increasing demand of the online shopping and the availability of the option of the e-commerce has attracted more consumers towards the online shopping and the availability of the many options there. It is one of the major reasons that the local stores are getting affected due to the changing behavior of the consumers. Mele, Ng and Chim, (2015) has argued that the retailers need to concentrate on their part of offering the best quality service to the consumers. Mele, Ng and Chim, (2015) has also pointed out that the local shopping or the leisure shopping is one of the effective means that has increased the overall income of the local people of the country, but the change in the consumers buying pattern has undoubtedly changed the way the consumers used to shop. Zaidan, (2016) has commented on the role of the government on the declining condition of the local tourism activity. It has been pointed that the government should take the initiative to improve the local shopping experience and give better opportunities to the retailers to come up with the approach that they would have something better to offer to the consumers. The condition of the local market should be improved that it would become a better place for the consumers where they would carry out their shopping as a means of leisure. Gap of the literature: The gap in the literature that has been identified is impact of the retailers due to the degrading condition of the leisure shopping in the local tourists locations. Focus shall be made on the local regions of Singapore. The research shall also focus on the major steps that the retailers have been taking to improve the situation. In addition to this, the research shall also focus on the role of the government that would eventually help to improve the condition of the leisure shopping in Singapore. Research methodology: Research design: There are four types of research designs, namely, exploratory research design, descriptive research design, explanatory research design that is accompanied by correlations and hypothesis testing along with experiments and lastly, the special cases that includes the analysis by the means of case studies, action research and scenario building (Creswell Poth, 2017). For this particular research, it is expected that the descriptive research design would be used where the secondary and the primary data gained from the detailed research shall be evaluated in a proper way to reach a particular conclusion. The theories and the concepts that have been recognised in the literature review part of the research shall be evaluated and an in depth knowledge of the same can be gained (Yin, 2013). In addition to this, by using this particular research design, one can critically evaluate the concepts and theories related to the topic. In this case it is very important because the complete research is depended on analysing the consumers behaviour and the changing pattern of the purchasing. The research approach that has been undertaken is by the means of interview and survey. The result of the interview and survey can be gained by the descriptive form only. There is no scope for experiment or testing and so the explanatory method should be avoided (Ioannidis et al., 2014). In addition to this, focus has not been made on a particular ethnic group of people that the exploratory research design would be selected. The research is based on the overall tourists visits Singapore and the retail shop owners of local places of Singapore. Therefore, there is no chance of the exploratory research design as well. So the selected research design is descriptive research design. Measuring the variables: The two variables that have been identified in the research are the consumers behaviour and the changing ideology of shopping that has created direct effect on the pattern of leisure shopping. The variables of the research shall be measured using a number of tools. The measurement depends on the types of variables (Ekinci, 2017). There is a direct measuring technique depending on the symbols and characters of the pre specified set of rules. The nominal scale shall be used for measuring certain categories or groups of variables like the age, gender or the specific choice of a person related to many options. The ordinal scale shall be used to understand the difference in the categories of major options like time duration (Xu et al., 2015). For example, the visitors might be asked on how long they have been doing shopping from the roadsides of Singapore and the duration of the years can be measured in terms of the ordinal scale. On the other hand, the interval scale can also be used to measure the qualitative options for the purpose of measuring other variables used in the research. Sampling requirements and sampling options: For this particular research, both probability and non-probability sampling technique shall be used for the purpose of this research. It is expected that in order to gain the idea about consumer behaviour, a survey should be conducted among 75 tourists in Singapore. There remain the probable chances that the aim of the survey will be fulfilled if the survey is carried on among the visitors of Singapore because they are the ones who shall provide the right information about their approach towards the changing consumers pattern on leisure shopping (De Vaus, 2013). The sampling technique taken into consideration is both probability and non-probability because the chances of gaining proper response from the respondents high but there still remain the probability that the selected participants would not be the right person selected for the research (Wildemuth, 2016). A survey paper shall be distributed among the participants that would contain only close ended questions and the participan ts shall be asked to select from the various options. The options shall be based on likert scale that the outcome of the response can be easily measured (De, 2013). For the qualitative approach, it is expected that 3 experts who have good knowledge about the changing consumer demand pattern and leisure shopping shall be interviewed in order to gain knowledge about the changing scenario. The questionnaire for these experts should be open ended where they shall be given the opportunity to present their own point of view on the topic. This way, an understanding on the topic can be gained and the research outcome could be more to the point and a detailed discussion on the topic taken under consideration (Xu et al., 2015). From the evidences of these qualitative and quantitative research approaches, a better conclusion could be reached that shall directly contribute to the findings of the research. Ethical issues: Ethical dilemma or issues might arise at the time of conducting a research. The major ethical issue that arise while conducting research is regarding the consent of the participants. It might happen that the participants remain unaware that they are part of the research and knowingly or unknowingly they might not have the consent of dealing with the researchers. The next ethical issue under consideration is the health and safety issues (Greenfield, 2016). It should be the primary concern of the researcher that none of the participants are harmed in the process of research. Thus, it is required to take complete precaution in every step of the research that none of the participants is harmed. As the research will be supported by quantitative data, the data has to be collected from a sampling group (Osungbade, Ogundiran Adebamowo, 2014). It is expected that while carrying out the survey, proper precautionary methods are undertaken that would not harm any individual. The sampling paper should not have the name of any particular company or brand that would act as an advertisement or promotional tag line. The survey paper should be designed is a manner that it would be used only for the purpose of the research and not other purpose (Blumberg, Cooper Schindler, 2014). In addition to this, none of the participants should be forced to participate in the survey. It is expected that they should sign a consent letter of their participation and show their full co-operation to the study. The last thing to be considered is the confidentiality of the participants. The participants of the research should be given the authority that their confidence should be kept intact and that they do not have to suffer due to the research (Fraley Hudson, 2014). These things are of great importance and should be thoroughly considered at the time of conducting the research. Summary: A detailed research methodology for the research has been stated here. A detailed approach on how the research would be conducted has been stated here. It is important to carry out the research in an ethical manner and thus, it is expected that the research would be conducted following the research guidelines. If the contestants participate in the research accordingly, it is expected that the research would be a fruitful one. References: Azmi, A., Ibrahim, N., Idris, A. K. M., Ahmad, Z., Nor, N. M. (2017). Free Money Persuasive Speech Essay Example

Free Money Persuasive Speech Essay Free Money What would you say if I told you there is a way you can save as much or more than 14,000 in ten years? You wouldn’t have to invest any money out of pocket. Your only investment would be 15 to twenty minutes a week. How many of you could use extra money to pay bills? Are there any purchases you’ve put off because you can’t afford it? Coupon clipping is not a secret to anyone. So why do so many people pass up the opportunity to save money? I don’t believe many people are aware of the purchasing and saving power it holds. Coupons save you money. Let me explain further. Coupon clipping has allowed me to purchase things I wouldn’t have been able to purchase otherwise. I bought my sons a Kawasaki dirt bike that cost $5000. I have bought appliances for my kitchen, Christmas presents, and various other items throughout my life. If you look at the dates on these receipts you will see that I have been saving money by clipping coupons for years. The coupon savings on these 4 receipts is $79. 77. Here is an example of $5 worth of coupons. The next two sheets equal $20 in coupons. As you can see just a few coupons add up to big savings. We will write a custom essay sample on Free Money Persuasive Speech specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Free Money Persuasive Speech specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Free Money Persuasive Speech specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer You can receive even greater savings by combining items already on sale with coupons. Here is an example of breakfast cereal on sale 6 or $10. That is $1. 67 per box. When you have a coupon for $1. 00 off 3 boxes, the cereal is $1. 50 per box and if you have two coupons for $1. 00 of your cereal would be $1. 33 per box. Here are some examples of retail store coupons. At the very least, even if you only chose to clip the occasional coupon, you would save $20 to $100 a year. This would buy a few pairs of scrubs for Amy, a few pairs of flip flops for Lynette, a deer tag or two for Mike and some trash bags for Becky. If you clip coupons weekly and use them every time you go to the grocery store, you save anywhere from a thousand to five thousand a year. How can you afford not to clip coupons? Coupons save you money that can be used for real needs. If you clipped the occasional coupon and saved only $5 a week on your grocery bill, that would amount to $260 a year. The financial possibilities are even greater if you decided to invest that savings. If , for example, you invested in a one year CD or certificate of deposit, starting in year four, you would have $1040 as an initial investment. Here is a spreadsheet I created showing what you would earn within 10 years at the current CD rate of 5. 15%. You will also see on this spreadsheet your savings if you saved $20 a week on your grocery bill. This would give you an initial investment of $1040 starting with year one. You would be adding 1040 each year in savings plus your interest each year. I found the current CD rates at bankrate. com. There are many investment opportunities that could increase your coupon savings if you chose to invest. This what can be done if you are serious about saving money by clipping coupons. Here are a couple of pages posted on forums. amily. com. You can see exactly how much they saved on their grocery bills per month and year. It is broken down in great detail. Here is a spreadsheet showing how much could be earned if these savings were invested in a CD or other investment. We are talking enough money for JR Sheila to buy a new car. So where do you find coupons? Two great sources are your newspaper and online. I clip coupons out of the Belleville News Democrat. My favorite is coupon bar. com. Here you will find various sources for coupons, and you can download it to your tool bar, so the latest coupons are only a click away. The book free Money Free Stuff includes coupon clipping as one of its strategies for obtaining free and low cost items. It also has other good information for saving money. Coupons can also be found online and in newspapers for entertainment, dining out, merchandise specific catalogs and stores. You can use a coupon organizer if you want or just put them in your wallet like I do. We all eat out, buy groceries, buy clothing, go to movies and other entertainment, so why not do these things for less. Would you throw money out the window? That’s what you do every time you miss an opportunity to use coupons. You are offering to pay more money for something than what you have to pay if you use coupons. Let’s review the value of clipping coupons. Coupons can save you money that can help you pay bills, make a purchase, save for your college education, save for your children’s college education or start a retirement fund. There is no out of pocket expense in order to reap these benefits, just a very small portion of your time. Let’s look at the flip side of the coin. If you don’t clip coupons, you won’t have extra money to help with expenses and purchases. You may have to take out a loan for purchases and expenses and incur interest expense as well. If you were diligent in your quest to save, you could be $75,000 richer in ten years. When you buy a lottery ticket your odds are 1 in several million that you will win. With coupons there are no odds, just solid savings. Coupons are free money for the taking. Take the time to clip coupons out of the newspaper or get them online. It only takes a few minutes of your time and saves you money that you can use for whatever however you choose. Capital One asks What’s in your wallet. I can tell you what won’t be in your wallet, if you don’t take advantage of coupons, money.

Comparison of norse gods to greek gods essays

Comparison of norse gods to greek gods essays Religion over the ages has served the purpose of trying to explain creation and life to the people who follow it. Religion, particularly that of ancient peoples, has used Gods to explain life, creation, and morals among other things it followers. Religion also sought to explain the unexplainable. Because Religions tend to serve the same purpose despite different followers, they often end up being similar to one another. Comparisons of different religions and myths become relatively easy due to their similarities. Norse Mythology can easily compared to Greek Mythology. Norse Mythology was mainly a religion of the Northern People during the early Middle Ages. Its followers hailed from lands such as Scandinavia, Sweden and Denmark. The Greeks on the other hand had a religion that reached its highest point hundreds of years before the Common Era. The Greeks had a slightly different view on religion partially because they lived in a friendlier climate. Norse people spent their harsh winters with no light and their summers with no darkness. They had extremes in weather at all times of the year, and their seas were dangerous with the strong winds and stronger storms. The Greeks on the other hand had a more moderate climate. Their winters were cold but not terrible and their summers were warm and pleasant. While the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas were not the safest or most pleasant routes of travel they were heaven in comparison to the North Sea of the Norse People. These differences in climate caused differences in lifestyle and overall differences in beliefs. However, despite this the Norse and the Greeks still managed to have very similar beliefs and myths. Gods are perhaps the most obviously similar aspects between the Norse and the Greeks. Thor was the son of Odin and a member of the Aesir, the name for a group Norse gods. He was the god of thunder and the main enemy of the giants. Thors main weapon was his mighty axe...

Musicals in the West End Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Musicals in the West End - Essay Example Before presenting any logical argument, it is inherent to carry out a practical check on the shows currently running in the West End theatres and those lined up for production later in the year. According to the London Theatre Online by Darren Daglish, there are 23 musicals, 13 comedies, and 11 dramas (or straight plays if you like) currently running. Mathematically, this translates to 48% musicals, 28% comedies, and 24% drama. At this point, one might conclude that there many musicals shows than the other two classes. However, there is a list of shows lined up for production this year, including 9 musicals, 11 comedies, and 37 plays: or 16% musicals, 20% comedies, and 64% dramas [2]. Clearly, plays still dominate the theatre time if these statistics are anything to go by. While there may be repetition of some musicals such as Billy Eliot, Blood Brothers, and Jersey Boys, there is a relatively few number of repetition of plays. Actually, there are fifteen musicals repetitions with on ly six repeated plays. Thus, it would be inaccurate to say that the West End harbours more musicals than other subsidised theatres. However, one must bear in mind that musicals have relatively long runs than plays. Thus, there may not necessarily be a 64% increase in the number of plays. Dominance of musicals Another interesting statistic is that about two-thirds of the straight plays currently showing or planned for production show in subsidized theatres, with only seven and two musicals. Therefore, there will be around 30 musicals, 17 comedies, and 16 straight plays in the commercial theatres. Certainly, this is not a show of unhealthy competition and dominance by musicals! Essentially, the dominant nature of musicals in the West End theatres is a perception rather than a matter of fact. To prove this practically, try asking any average person about any showing musicals in the West End theatres and majority will mention Billy Elliot, Jersey Boys, and The Lion King [3]. The person may also mention Cats and Les Mis, and probably Beauty and the Beast. Similarly, ask the people to mention a few straight plays in the same theatres would probably respond by naming just a single play and add the typical â€Å"some Shakespeare.† This highlights the enormous interest that the public has for musicals as compared to straight plays at all levels, with the exception of real theatrical devotee

David Humes Thoughts On Empiricism Essay Example for Free

David Humes Thoughts On Empiricism Essay One of the most notable figures in the history of western philosophy was Scottish philosopher David Hume. Hume was widely known for his views on Empiricism. Empiricism has been pondered since the beginnings of philosophy by many famous figures, from Aristotle to John Locke. (Wikipedia) Empiricism claims that human knowledge is founded on observation and use of the five senses. Hume published a literary work titled Enquiry concerning Human Understanding. This had a profound impact on empiricist philosophy. (Heter) In section 2 of the Enquiry concerning Human Understanding, titled Of the Origin of Ideas, Hume makes distinctions about impressions and ideas. Simply stating how a memory obtained from the central nervous system can never reach the level of raw, vividness that the original impression had made. An example of this concept can be something along the lines of experiencing free fall. We have all experienced free fall at some point in our lives. Simply recalling that moment can never fully allow us to grasp the gut wrenching excitement of pure gravity. An interesting thought brought forward in section 2 is The Copy Principle. Hume states But though our thought seems to possess this unbounded liberty, we shall find, upon a nearer examination, that it is really confined within very narrow limits, and that all this creative power of the mind amounts to no more than the faculty of compounding, transposing, augmenting, or diminishing the materials afforded us by the senses and real life experience†¦(Enquiry, Section II) In laymans terms, imagination of the human mind might be perceived as limitless. However, in  reality, it is really a combination of sensory information and real life experiences. To this end, Hume believes that there are no truly original ideas. Everything we can conceive is a copy or modification of material afforded to us by our surroundings. Examples of this can be found all around us. Such as the design of a plane matching the shape of a bird or Velcro behaving as burdock burrs. (Bloomberg) An interesting point Hume brings to our attention is the Blind Man Argument. Hume claims that a person born blind has no notions of what color is. If you grant that individual the ability to see, you present him with a new channel for ideas. Without this inlet, he would have no idea what color is. Therefore, color must come from the senses. (Enquiry, Section II) One might object to Humes copy principle by stating that original ideas are created quite frequently. A perfect example of this is the telephone. There was no object in the known universe that was able to transmit encoded sound waves through electrical wire over vast distances to a receiver before the telephone. This invention came into existence through pure innovation. The blind man argument presents an error. Just because a blind man cannot make an association between the word red and the color red doesnt mean that they have never seen it before. Perhaps the man has seen the color red countless times in his dreams. However, without having another individual identify the same color and help him form the association between the word and the color, the blind man will never know what red means. Countering my objection to The Copy Principle, all the natural resources we are afforded on earth  can be combined, transformed or restructured to create something else. Basically, everything we have created can be broken down to the raw materials found within our environment. This makes it impossible to create something truly new. The telephone is simply a combination of oil, copper, aluminum, silicone, ect. In defense of The Blind Man Argument, people born without the ability to see, claim they see nothing. They might understand how the color spectrum works but they will never be able to sense what the actual color looks like. For one to know the answer to this debate, he or she have the ability to see and be blind at the same time. Hume certainly brings up some interesting concepts. For this reason, scholars have been studying his ideas for centuries. Empiricism and rationalism are in constant disagreement. Both philosophical notions are extremely hard to disprove. Wherefore The Maintenance Of Liberty :: essays research papers fc

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure. -Thomas Jefferson On a cold, miserable day in the North Caucasus, the only one who does not look dismal is Russian General Mikhail Malofeyev. He is dead. His body is flag draped and on open display before a dark stand of pines. He is encircled by his mourning officers clad in hulking, camouflage coats. "Russia Admits Chechnya Losses Growing," says the news headline. Military body counts since the counting of them began bear little relationship between actual and reported casualties. Russians officially admit to 910 dead since the war restarted in October of 1999. The Russian Committee of Soldiers' Mothers, who gets its accounting from soldiers, their families, and military hospitals, thinks that 3,000 is a far more likely figure. Interestingly, NTV, which is a local Russian private investigating network and which reports on military news contradictions, has been kicked out of the military press reporting pool. This Chechan conflict is just another example of an ill equipped militia fighting one of the most powerful militaries in the world to a standstill. This is as it was with the Afghans who were even so primitive that they had to forge rifle barrels in their own backyard furnaces. The Afghani ultimately kicked the Soviet invaders out of their homeland. This was just like the Warsaw ghetto Jews, who kept the murderous Nazi's at bay for almost a month with only a handful of small arms before the Jew's valiant final defeat. History repeats with the citizen patriots of Lexington and Concord, who demonstrated with their blood the power and the purpose behind the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the then new United States of America. The Second Amendment confidently guarantees that We the People will ever remain free. Pro Second Amendment people always talk a good game. But what would happen should Americans ever needed to put this right to arms to the test. There are over 20,000 gun laws on the books. These "laws" include outright bans, registration, confiscation, waiting periods, quotas, and any other abhorrent violation that the ruling class imposes just to probe if Americans can be intimidated into servitude. For note, that test of submission happened a while back while the citizens slept. The citizens have already been graded, and by the criteria of their forefathers, they have failed miserably.

She Never Lies

The whole room goes silent. This is what I've been waiting for. See this is what its like at my school, to fit in you either act yourself and if that's good enough you're lucky, if not some serious sucking up is to be done. And that's what Joanne did. I, myself, I'm an outgoing, semi-confident girl and I care about how I look and appear towards others. Basically I just like to have fun. Now Joanne and I are in the same class and have a bit of a giggle now and then. We are essentially best friends. Well we used to be anyway. Right, I'll start from the beginning; Joanne was just a shy, self-conscious girl who underestimated herself but was perfect how she was because all her friends, including me, loved her very much. Then they came along. Basically they are the other people in our drama club. Most of them are older than we are and most of us have fun and fit in as we are, she would as well if she didn't think she had to change herself to be ‘accepted'. I'll explain to you what she does, especially around older guys. See when she's around guys she forgets that any of her girly friends exist and it's just like she thinks she doesn't need us around them, just because she likes being the centre of attention. To get the older girls to like her she sucks up to them as much as she can it's just unbelievable. We, her original friends, hate the new her, and just cannot stand it. Last week everyone in the drama club were getting all excited because we had been invited to a summer party in the holidays at a guys house. All us girls were planning what to wear and how we should do our hair, blah blah blah, stuff like that. Joanne on the other hand, couldn't care less about our little girly chats and goes off with the boys yet again, and just abandons us. Now it's starting to get out of hand. After a few days of being ignored I thought I would stand up to her and calmly explain what she's done. She denies it all, takes everything I say the wrong way and puts everything out of proportion and turns everything around so that it's all about her. Which it really isn't. I just wish that all her ‘new friends' knew what she was really like and what she says about them behind their backs. I want to tell them all, but they will never believe me. To them, she is innocent. Finally Joanne is not in school, probably ‘ill'. That means that me and my best best mate, Lucy, get to talk to our drama club in private at our last get together before the summer. Sorted. The only problems we could conjure up by doing this is: A – them believing us, and B – them ending up hating us for saying such things about Joanne in the first place. We took that risk and went for it. They didn't seem too hateful they understood our reasoning, and the fact we have known her for longer and we made a deal. They get her drunk at the party and get it all out of her, if not then we are in for complete humiliation. This will be interesting. The summer was great just my friends and I. Obviously that didn't include Joanne, she was way too busy ‘doing drama' or whatever excuse she could think of. We all knew she was with them. In the end, we just didn't bother calling her to meet up because we knew she would have other arrangements. A few days before the party some of the drama guys asked me, Lucy and some others if we wanted to meet up. They said that it was important plus they hadn't seen us in ages, but we soon realised that was just a white lie to get us to come out. So naturally we accepted and went to the park. It was fun hanging out with everyone again, Friday was looking better and better to me. After I got home from my fun and exhausting day, I find that I am ambushed by texts and calls from Joanne. She was having a go at me for going out with ‘her' friends without her. I just ignored her because I thought she was being a bit of a hypocrite to be honest, and by that time I'd had enough. The deal looked more promising by the minute. It's Friday, and I am so eager for tonight to begin. I manage to control myself and go out shopping for a new outfit with Lucy. Clearly that took us all day, so when I got home it was time to make myself gorgeous. It took me just over an hour to get ready, just in time to leave for the center of town to meet my best guy friend, Craig. Somehow we managed to get a lift from the head of drama club, so we were happy. In the car I was so excited it was unbelievable. Throughout the last few day I have been informing everyone of what happened after I met up with ‘Joanne's' friends, they know everything she said. I reckon it's all on for tonight. Ever since all this Joanne malarkey started, I've never been able to understand why she does it. Why she doesn't just be herself. Whether she's forgotten her old friends, or just forgotten how she used to be. It just doesn't make sense. By the time we arrived, Joanne was already there. Laughing, flirting and just being who she wasn't. I was surprised that she noticed I'd arrived, oh my mistake she hadn't. The only person she had noticed was Craig, I wanted to hit her so much. When the other girls arrived we decided to spike all her drinks until she blabs, so from then on her drinks weren't all innocent and clean, they had been spiked. Only with a little alcohol though. Halfway through the night she was completely wasted. This was our opportunity to show everyone what Joanne's like, and to have our laugh. One person can only do this stunt, and that person was Daniel. Daniel is the best looking guy in our drama club and absolutely every girl at some point in her life will fancy the pants off him, and for Joanne this was the point in her life. Daniel decided to go with the casual approach, and casually asked her what she thought of drama club and everyone at the party. The bomb had been set off. Once she started she couldn't stop. She thought the girls were bitchy and annoying, and obviously not as good looking as her. The boys were mainly fit but full of themselves and have massive egos. So basically, she doesn't like anyone there. Although she surprised me when she said the only people she did like were the girls in her year, i.e. my friends and I, and of course she liked Daniel. She explained that she only hung around with the older guys because she was just a tad bit desperate!! I couldn't wait until the next day. For the next few days I have to say Joanne was hated by nearly everyone. I felt quite bad about what me and Lucy did, telling everyone Joanne was evil. In some ways though I'm happy because she's started to go back to her old self when she didn't know the drama club, now everyone gets to be friends with the real her. Not that the older people want to be, that would be just me and the girls. After a month or so the drama club started to warm up to Joanne and her normal self. Future parties will never be able to live up to the drama from that party, it was proper immense. I suppose that's what drama is all about, isn't it?!

Understanding the Ramifications of Overfishing

Simply put, overfishing is when so many fish are caught that the population cant reproduce enough to replace them. Overfishing can lead to depletion of or extinction of fish populations. The depletion of top predators, like tuna, enable smaller marine species to overpopulate affecting the rest of the food chain.  Deep sea fish are thought to be more at risk than shallow water fish due to their slow metabolism and smaller rates of reproduction. Types of Overfishing There are three types of overfishing: Ecosystem overfishing happens when a predatory species, like tuna, has a sharp decline in population enabling smaller marine species to overpopulate.Recruitment overfishing occurs when a fish is harvested before it is old enough to reproduce.Growth overfishing is when a fish is harvested before it has reached its full size.   Overfishing in the Past Some of the earliest examples of overfishing occurred  in the 1800s when the whale population was decimated in order to produce high-demand products. Whale blubber was used to create candles, lamp oil and the whalebone was used in everyday items.   In the mid-1900s there was a sardine population collapse on the West Coast due to climate factors combined with overfishing. Fortunately, sardine stocks had rebounded by the 1990s.   Preventing Overfishing As fisheries have returned smaller yields each year governments around the world are looking into what can be done to prevent overfishing. Some of the methods include expanding the use of aquaculture, more effective enforcement of laws governing catches, and improved fisheries management.   In the U.S., Congress passed The Sustainable Fisheries Act of 1996 which defines overfishing as a rate or level of fishing mortality that jeopardizes a fisherys capacity to produce maximum sustainable yield (MSY) on a continuing basis.
